Toyota's big news for the 2011 Detroit Auto Show was a static model of its new hybrid city car -- The Prius c. Toyota claims this kooky-looking four door will offer up the highest mileage of any non-plug-in hybrid when it goes on sale in the first half of 2012.
That's a bold claim for the stylish urban runner, as it must best the current generation Prius' fuel economy ratings of 51 city and 48 highway. It should be possible because the Prius c will be considerably smaller and lighter than its mid-size brother. The real question is, is how Prius family planners can do all of this, yet still meet a low cost target.

On the styling front, if the Prius c makes it to market looking anywhere close to this concept, it will certainly be a head turner. There are shades of Renault Megane in the booty and a pair of futuristic, high set headlights up front -- which combine to make it one of the funkier Toyota concepts we've seen in while.
We also see it as the new category killer in space only recently created by Honda's announcement of the Fit Hybrid.
