Dodge Bids Farewell to Caliber Crossover and Nitro SUV

The end of 2011 brings about the death of two much-criticized Dodge models, the Caliber crossover and the Nitro SUV, both of which were conceived and developed during the time Mercedes-Benz's parent company Daimler reigned over the Chrysler Group.

The last examples of the Caliber and Nitro models rolled off Chrysler's Belvidere, Illinois and Toledo North assembly plants respectively this month.

Introduced in 2006, the Caliber was designed to replace the Neon in the same fashion that Nissan tried to win the European C-segment (think VW Golf) with the Qashqai crossover, but without the same success.

2011 Dodge Durango is based on the redesigned Jeep Grand Cherokee, which uses some parts of the Mercedes-Benz M-Class platform. The new Durango promises a lot more than its clumsy predecessor delivered. It is a car-based design that uses an independent suspension. Chrysler's new 3.6-liter V6 will be standard, with a 5.7-liter V8 optional.



Best competitors for 2011 Durango are a large SUV vehicle's like Volvo XC 60,Toyota Highlander or Buick Enclave.

2011 Fast Car Dodge Challenger SRT8 392

Dodge's muscle car, Dodge Challenger SRT8, receives a boost in horsepower and torque with an introduction of the 392-cu inch HEMI V8 powertrain. The Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 delivers more performance and better handling with .93g of lateral acceleration on the skid pad – the most of any production Challenger till date.

Dodge performance loyalists asked for more power off the line, and the 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 answers the call with 470 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque. That’s 90 lb.-ft. more torque at 2,900 rpm compared with the previous 6.1-liter V-8 engine. To kick off 2011-model year production, Dodge will build 1,492 Inaugural Edition models of the Dodge Challenger SRT8 392, all with exclusive content.


On the outside, Dodge is offering unique customization for those first 1,492 owners. Two colors and new full-body stripe combinations include Deep Water Blue with standard Stone White stripes or Bright White Clear Coat with standard Viper Blue stripes. All Inaugural Edition models will ride on standard 20-inch SRT-exclusive wheels that feature a polished face and satin black painted pockets.

Unique “392 HEMI” badges flank both fenders touting the historically significant V-8 engine. Mopar quad exhaust tips deliver the performance exhaust note while adding a serious muscle car styling cue. A larger front splitter and integrated front fender spats give this Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 better overall high-speed aerodynamics and balance.

The race-inspired interior of the Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 Inaugural Edition features standard Smooth Pearl White leather-trimmed seats and dual blue stripes accented by unique blue stitching. Each of the front seats features an embroidered “392″ just below the headrest. An exclusive, serialized “Inaugural Edition 392 HEMI” dash plaque, showing the sequential build number from 1 to 1,492, rounds out the exclusive interior content.

In the age of high gas prices, hybrids and everyone supposedly going green like the government would make you think, the 2010 class of cars, SUV's and trucks took another hit this year with depreciation and upkeep costs. Just about all the top companies took a good hit in both categories of big and roomy and the supposedly fuel-efficient compact variety which is not as a big hit to people as many would tell you. Cadillac Escalade - Type: Luxury SUV

It's hard to say really what tipped the "experts" off on this vehicle. It did rank poorly amongst safety and value but the one statistic that really stuck out was this vehicle got top honours for the most stolen vehicle out of everything that's out there. "Pimp My Ride" apparently does not apply here.

Chevrolet Aveo - Type: Compact

The Chevrolet Aveo5 1LT overall value is at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to even more expensive models such as the Volkswagen Golf and Honda Civic. Consumer Reports concludes that "the ride is jittery and noise is constant." . What would you expect from driving something as small as a golf cart?

Chevrolet Colorado - Type: Pickup Truck

This vehicle has been rated poorly in just about in every aspect so I'm not going to waste my time telling you about it because what does matter is the fact that GM is soon doing away with this model as well as the Canyon. So, of course the best medicine would be to stay away from these models.

Dodge Nitro - Type: SUV

The SLT model is just another version of the Jeep Liberty but with lower marks. Consumers complained
how noisy this SUV is and how it lacks agility. There tended to be some sort of body lean which added difficulty for people steering. This would be the equivalent of pushing a baby stroller in gravel.

Ford F-250 - Type: Truck

The 2010 Ford F-250 Lariat was ranked the worst on gas mileage getting on average just 10 mpg. This was a diesel engine model as well. Hate to see how an unleaded version would do. At this bad a rate of miles per gallon, one would think you'd have to get a bank loan just to get back and forth to work every three months.

Jeep Wrangler - Type: SUV

The Unlimited Sahara was the main gripe but Jeep Wrangler overall has plummeted 23% in sales since the beginning of the year. Apparently it does well off-road but fell short when driven on-road. Handling is a challenge with vague steering and low cornering limits. It's reliability was another negative for consumers.

Chrysler Sebring - Type: Midsize

Car experts ridicule this unpopular gem for its cheap interior and poor performance. It is considered the worst midsize car for the money due to the high ownership costs. Its rate of depreciation is almost faster than watching paint dry.

Mercury Mountaineer - Type: SUV

Top honours for worst midsize SUV for the money, the Mountaineer (and its twin, Ford Explorer, which ranked right behind it) is truck-based. So therefore it makes it use more fuel than the competition and not something suited for city and suburban driving. Dodge Challenger SRT8 : 1000hp speed test

The Dodge Challenger SRT8 CULT Motorsport has built about a year, but given its public debut at this year's SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Threatening is the word that best defines him. If this muscle car is already very rough number, imagine a black paint and a body kit widebody widened to the absolute limits.

To commemorate the occasion, Chrysler has announced that it will build a limited edition 2010 Viper SRT10 "Final Edition" models with a production run of 50 Viper SRT10 Final Edition models.

The Final Edition Viper Sport Car models will be available in Coupe, Roadster and ACR (American Club Racer) model configurations and each will feature a Graphite Clear Coat body with a painted black center stripe traced in red. Viper Coupe and ACR Final Edition models include a black windshield surround. All Final Edition models carry unique side sill badges.

Inside, each car will get side sill badges along with red accent stitching on the black surfaces, plus red painted halo surrounds on the gauge cluster and bright stainless steel screws in center stack bezel. A numbered plaque will be featured on the shifter bezel and the updates will be finished off with Viper Final Edition floor mats.

Despite not having pricing information available yet, if you want one, you better get your order in quick.
