Acura is the performance and luxury division of Honda. The brand was created in 1986 and became the first Japanese luxury car line. Since then Nissan and Toyota have also introduced luxury car brands, Infiniti and Lexus, respectfully.

Acura TSX 2008

The Acura TSX is an automobile manufactured by Honda, introduced in April 2003, it was sold only in the United States and Canada but from the 2009 model year on, will be avalable also in Mexico. Sold in North America under the Acura name, it filled the gap as Acura’s 4-door, entry-level sedan when the Integra sedan was discontinued in 2001. The TSX is badge engineered from the CL-series Honda Accord (or European Accord) sold in Europe, Japan and Australia. However, the TSX had a restyled interior and different suspension tuning when it was introduced. The interior is now standardized for all three markets. In the Australian & New Zealand markets, Honda sells the TSX as the Accord Euro, a smaller mid-size car, where the USDM Accord is sold in the large car category.

As of 2008, the Acura TSX 2008 is the smallest sedan in the Acura model line, other than the Civic-based CSX sold only in Canada.

ACURA MDX-ELS Second-Generation Automotive Sound System

When LA Audio File published its most recent Surveying the Best New Car Sound Systems report comparing the finest that car companies offer in the way of premium audio systems, a lot of familiar names rose to the challenge. In the end, it was a Volkswagen Phaeton with its obscure-sounding No. 9VE premium sound system option that ascended to the top.

The Phaeton system was an audio juggernaut. VW eschewed edge-of-the-art technology in favor of brute force. It lacked finesse, not to mention true, discrete multi-channel surround sound. It did have a surround mode, but it was signal processing derived from two-channel stereo. The system made everything sound good, if not entirely accurate. Still, it was the Raging Bull of the factory audio community, and it knocked out all of its competition at the last go around. That was then. VW of America has since retired the sound system as well as the car.

Several new systems have since appeared to go after the championship belt. Lexus has introduced a third-generation Mark Levinson system it calls the Reference Surround Audio system, Mercedes Benz teamed up with Harman/Kardon to design an impressive system for the latest S-Class sedan. 2009 Acura TSX

the 2009 Acura TSX swells by a parking space filling three inches in width and 2.4 inches in length. It's now wider, taller, heavier and way roomier than the original Acura Legend. At least by building half the body structure out of high-strength steels (up from 39 percent), the curb weight balloons only by about 150 pounds. This happens with almost every model redesign, but this time I'm taking it personally because we just added a present-generation TSX to the family fleet precisely because of its smallness. Why can't a small luxury car stay small?

The company line is that similar supersizing of key competitors like the Audi A4 (length: +4.6 in., width: +2.1 in) and BMW 3 Series (length: +2.2 in., width: +3.0 in.) forced Acura's hand, but loosen the lips of company insiders and you'll learn that the European market (which accounts for well over half of TSX/Euro Accord production) drove this decision. Honda's high-tech new 2.2-liter clean-diesel powertrain packages wider than the 2.4-liter gas motor, and squeezing it in required either broadening the beam or brooming the slick-handling control-arm front suspension in favor of struts. We like the suspension and we'll love the fuel-sipping diesel when it arrives in early 2009.....

Acura 2008 Mercury Mariner

Ford today announced the 2008 Mercury Mariner, which will go on sale in early 2007. The crossover features a revised exterior and an all-new interior. Ford says it has also improved handling, added a slew of new safety features (curtain air bags and AdvanceTrac with RSC), and made the ride quieter Chassis upgrades and new Electric Power Steering (EPS) are designed to give the Mariner car-like ride and handling.

"The 2008 Mariner is the first product to truly deliver 100 percent of the design DNA for Mercury as a brand" says Kim Irwin, Mercury brand manager. "It looks good and drives well, it has sophisticated style, and it's not like anything else out there."

The standard engine is a 2.3-liter, 16-valve Duratec 23 four-cylinder that produces 153 horsepower at 5,800 rpm and 152 lb.-ft of torque at 4,250 rpm. An optional 3.0-liter, 24-valve V6 Duratec 30 engine produces 200 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 193 lb.-ft of torque at 4,850 rpm. Both engines come with a standard four-speed-automatic transaxle.

On the outside, the 2008 Mariner’s all-new sheet metal includes significant design changes to the front/rear fascias, liftgate, headlamps and taillamps, a raised beltline, new hood and B-pillar blackout molding. Inside, Satin Pewter finishes and chrome accents give the vehicle an upscale look. There are new seats, door trim panels, A- and B-pillar trims, center console and a new floor-mounted shifter. The seats are monochromatic or two-tone with Alcantara Suede inserts.

Side glass thickness has increased from 3.8 to 4.7 mm and helps prevent outside noise from entering the passenger cabin. On V6-equipped models, engineers moved the alternator from the right to left side of the engine. Because the engine is transversely mounted, the noise is now located farther away from the passenger cabin. A new, quieter cooling fan reduces idle noise.

All-wheel drive models have a new rear differential that is quieter and smoother.New windshield molding and low profile wipers help improve airflow around the vehicle and reduce wind noise.Redesigned recessed channels on top of Mariner are staggered and shorter to reduce boom as air flows over the top.Outside mirrors are larger and careful attention was given to their design to minimize wind noise.

Additional sound deadening material has been added throughout the vehicle to reduce noise throughout the interior.

Mariner Hybrid continues to be a "full" hybrid. This means that, unlike other "mild" hybrid vehicles, Mariner Hybrid can run on 100 percent electric power up to about 30 mph, maximizing in-city fuel economy. Mariner Hybrid automatically switches between pure electric power, pure gasoline engine power or combined operation of the two to maximize efficiency and performance.
